About this Programme

B.Sc. Agriculture is a 4-year professional undergraduate degree awarded by Indian Universities for 10+2 students preferably with Science stream. A student pursuing B.Sc. Agriculture course will study a wide variety of subjects including agronomy, soil sciences, horticulture (fruit science & vegetable), plant breeding and genetics, entomology, plant pathology, animal sciences, extension education, plant biochemistry, agriculture economics, basics of biotechnology, etc. The syllabus is as per the guidelines of ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) and is designed to train students to understand ways of improving the crop production in a sustainable manner and to provide overall knowledge related to agriculture and related disciplines.

Scope

The demand for graduates with a degree in agriculture is increasing every day in India and abroad. Course fees are also considerably lower in comparison to other professional degrees, while rewarding with good jobs and a better package. BSc Agriculture graduates have ample job opportunities in the government as well as private sector. They can be hired as Agriculture Development Officers (ADO) and Block Development Officers (BDO).

About this Programme

A Master of Science in Agronomy provides graduates with a thorough knowledge and understanding of how agricultural productivity can improve food security and assist societies with the ability to streamline more efficient food production methodologies.

Scope

  • Identification of the proper season for the cultivation of a wide range of crops.
  • Proper methods of cultivation are needed to reduce the cost of cultivation and maximize the yield and economic returns.
  • Availability and application of chemical fertilizers have necessitated the generation of knowledge to reduce the ill effects due to excess application and yield losses due to the unscientific manner of application.
  • New technology to overcome the effect of moisture stress under dry land conditions is explored by Agronomy and future agriculture depends on dry land agriculture.
  • Keeping farm implements in good shape and utilizing efficient manners to nullify the present-day labour crisis is further broadening the scope of agronomy.
  • Restoration of soil fertility and proper conservation of soil moisture.
  • Preparation of good seed bed.
  • Proper control of weeds to make land resources more productive.
  • New varieties of crops with high-yield potential have to be exploited.
  • Appropriate water management practices have to be developed.
