Physiotherapy is a branch of rehabilitative medicine aimed at helping patients maintain, recover or improve their physical abilities. Physiotherapists are concerned with the remediation of impairment and disabilities, and promotion of mobility and movement potential through provisional diagnosis and physical intervention. Physiotherapy aims to develop, maintain and restore the maximum degree of functional capacity in people with somatic, psychosomatic and organic disorders, or in those whose health or quality of life has been negatively affected. The overall objective of the course is to train professional physiotherapists. Therefore, the programme places great emphasis on the acquisition of skills and attitudes that serve in the practical application of physiotherapeutic treatments. In an ever-changing environment, physiotherapists must be flexible and able to adapt to these changes. Students must therefore be able to take this on board so that they can survive in the complex world of healthcare and take responsibility for their professional development.
The entire curriculum is designed to make it student friendly. The courses are designed to impart Physiotherapy knowledge along with skills underpinned by relevant biomedical and behavioural sciences. Problem based learning approach and innovative education strategies are used to facilitate integration of clinical and basic sciences.
The Department has Physiotherapy OPD operational in the 1000 bed multi super-specialty hospital of the Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College, located in the university campus. Students are exposed to clinical experience in the OPD and Hospital IPD in collaboration with healthcare centers. Students have access to departmental facilities and laboratories to improve their practical skills. A well stocked central library is the source for theoretical knowledge. Requirements of practical component of the curriculum are fulfilled through the work undertaken in the laboratories. The DPT / BPT / MPT programmes are approved by Govt. of U.P. and U.P. State Medical Faculty.
The Department is fully equipped with the ultramodern Research labs, Electrotherapy labs, and Exercise-Therapy labs. The institute also has a departmental library which is fully supported with Internet connection, Journals, Archives and surplus books for academic up gradation.
The Department is fully developed with competent, professionally sound and highly qualified teaching faculty to provide much needed practical training to the students of diploma, under graduate and post graduate courses of DPT, BPT and MPT so as to be able to provide relief to their patients with competence and full confidence by utilizing the expertise attained by them at the Institute with state-of-the-art technology.
