Identified List of Disciplines along with its related Minor

The four-year Undergraduate programme will comprise of courses under various categories.

Major Core course (MJC) -

  • Major discipline is a programme of study in which the student is admitted and pursues the courses as mandatory requirement of his/her Programme of study. MJC shall be the core credit courses of the discipline which will be spread across the semesters.
  • Since NEP 2020 offers exit option after One/Two/Three year of study to award Undergraduate certificate/Diploma/Degree (in Major Discipline) therefore, sufficient major core courses are being provided in the Framework which gives adequate knowledge of the Major Discipline. For example: - UG Certificate in History, UG Diploma in History, Degree in History B.A, B.A (Hons/Research) in History after Fourth Year.

Minor Core Course (MNC) -

  • The student upon admission in the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) shall be given freedom to choose one Minor discipline among the numerous offered by the Department of study. The courses are drawn from across the related discipline of Department of Major Discipline.
  • MNC once chosen & allotted (as per rule) to a student will not be changed at any stage of the program. For example: - if a student is admitted in B.A (Economics), He/She may choose any discipline (other than Economics) belonging to the faculty of Social Science or any other faculty as Minor Core course as offered by the concerned department.

Multidisciplinary Course (MDC) - All UG students are required to undergo 3 introductory-level courses relating to any of the broad disciplines given below. These courses are intended to broaden the intellectual experience and form part of liberal arts and science education.

  1. Humanities & Social Sciences
  2. Library, Information, and Media Sciences
  3. Commerce and Management
  4. Natural and Physical Sciences
  5. Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Applications

Students are not allowed to choose or repeat courses already undergone at the higher secondary level (12th class) and from the chosen Major & Minor disciplines. MDC group once chosen can’t be changed in subsequent semesters.

Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) -

Students are required to achieve competency in a Modern Indian Language (MIL) and in the English language with special emphasis on language and communication skills. The courses aim at enabling the students to acquire and demonstrate the core linguistic skills, including critical reading and expository and academic writing skills, that help students articulate their arguments and present their thinking clearly and coherently and recognize the importance of language as a mediator of knowledge and identity.

Value Added Courses (VAC) -

These are value-based courses which are meant to impart knowledge base education of human values & ethics, Indian culture & heritage, health & wellness, environment aspects and digital technology in education.

Skills Enhancement Courses (SEC) -

These courses are aimed at imparting practical skills, hands-on training, soft skills, etc., to enhance the employability of students.

Summer Internship (SIP) -

A key aspect of the new UG programme is induction into actual work situations. All students will also undergo internships in an industry or organization so that students may actively engage with the practical side of their learning and, as a by-product, further improve their employability.

Vocational Training (VoT) -

Students who wish to exit after the first two semesters or after 4 semesters will undergo a 4-credit 120-hour work-based learning/training during the summer term in order to get a UG Certificate or UG Diploma respectively.

Community Engagement (CE) -

The curricular component of ‘community engagement seeks to expose students to the socio-economic issues in society so that the theoretical learnings can be supplemented by actual life experiences to generate solutions to real-life problems.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) -

co-curricular activities are activities that are supplementary to classroom education. Co-curricular activities are important in education because they equip students with social skills, and moral values and facilitate personality development, intellectual skill development, and character development of students.
For examples: Music Club, Literary society and alike.

Learning by project-based entrepreneurial initiatives (LPBEI) -

Learning by project-based entrepreneurial initiatives refers to an educational approach where students engage in hands-on, practical projects with an entrepreneurial focus. Instead of relying solely on traditional classroom instruction, students work on real-world projects that simulate entrepreneurial experiences and challenges. These initiatives aim to provide students with opportunities to develop essential entrepreneurial skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and business acumen.

Deep Reading (DR) -

Deep reading refers to a focused and immersive approach to reading and comprehending complex non-academic and general life related texts. It is to develop lifelong learning habits driven by independent / self-learning. Student independently chooses book of non-academic nature and based on his interest.
