Teerthanker Mahaveer University Organized 1st Convocation

1st Convocation, an historic event of Teerthanker Mahaveer University. Moradabad was organised on May 21, 2012 at 11.A.M.in the university premises in a dignified manner. His Excellency Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India graced the occasion as a Chief Guest. Shri Suresh Jain Chancellor of the university presided over the function and Sh. Iqbal Mehmood Hon'ble Minister of State for food and Consumer Affairs and Prison Utter Pradesh was the guest of Honour.

The mammoth gathering of students was thrilled and excited not only with their academic achievement but also with the proud feeling that they will be honoured by the 'Missile Man' of India. The formal function started when the Academic procession of Directors and Principles of contingent colleges of the University, led by Prof. R. K. Mudgal, Registrar made a grand entry into the enclosure. His Excellency Dr. Kalam and other dignitaries were escorted by Prof. R. K. Mittal, Vice Chancellor and Shri Suresh Jain, Chancellor, TMU.

On the dais were also present Shri Manish Jain, Group Vice Chairman along with His Excellency Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam former president of India Shri Iqbal Mehmood, Minister U.P. State and five eminent stalwarts of their respective fields. The gala function started with recitation of Namonkar Mantra by Dr. Shobha Ghosh followed by Saraswati Vandana by group of students. The guests were given a warm welcome by worthy Chancellor Shri Suresh Jain.

In his welcome address Prof. R. K. Mittal Vice Chancellor gave a brief description of the various programs and courses offered and presented a glimpse enrolment and achievements of the University.

He resolved to recognize the excellence and eminence of five distinguished persons and requested His Excellency to confer Honoris Causa degrees to:

  • Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman & Chief of Cardiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute New Delhi – Doctor of Science.
  • Shri Arvind Dham, Chairman and Managing Director of Amtek group of companies (USA) – Doctor of Philosophy.
  • Sh. Narinder Batra, Member/Trustee, Batra Hospital New Delhi – Doctor of Philosophy.
  • Sh Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Equity Investor and popularly called India's Warren Buffet. – Doctor of Philosophy.
  • Sh. Ravinder Jain, a Noted Music Composer, Singer & Lyricist – Doctor of Philosophy.

Shri Suresh Jain expressed his heart felt gratitude that Dr. Kalam spared his valuable time to bless the students for their academic achievements. He assured that all efforts will be made to impart quality education and so as the students can contribute for growth and development of the nation.

As many as 1132 students of graduates, post graduates and diploma courses of many programs were awarded degrees. A number of merit position holders were bestowed with gold, silver and bronze medals.

In his long awaited convocation address Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam called upon students to bring out their potential and excel in the field wherever they work. The ignited minds of youth are the most powerful resources on earth, above earth and under earth...he said.

He expressed pleasure on multifarious growth of the university in a short span of time which has now multi pronged focus covering various dimensions of learning Dr. Kalam congratulated the students, commended the Faculty members for shaping the minds and capacity building of their students at the same time emphasized the need for research for growth and development in education. Wishing the students a bright and prosperous future, He asked the students to take a pledge to lead a joyful life with good conduct, respect for human values and positive approach. Write your own destiny and contribute for development of the country.

The inspirational address was followed by a huge round of applause by the students and others.

Since Chief Minister Shri Akhilesh Yadav could not come due to unavoidable reasons His letter conveying good wishes to students of the university was read by Shri Iqbal Mehmood, Minister of State.

Prof. R. K. Mudgal, Registrar, TMU proposed Vote of thanks and said that the students and teaching fraternity feel honoured with the gracious presence of Dr. Kalam and other dignitaries. He also acknowledged the efforts put in by one and all for the success of the event. On this historic event the eminent personalities of other universities, administration and judiciary also graced the occasion.
