Professional nursing is a significant component of quality healthcare and is
considered vital to the National Health Care Delivery System. Nurses promote
health, prevent diseases and help patients cope with illness. They collaborate
with all members of the healthcare team to provide the necessary care for each
patient as an individual. Nursing involves practices that are restorative,
preventive and supportive in nature. World over there is an acute shortage of
trained nursing staff. Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)
in its report pointed out that the number of nurses available in the country in
2005 were 9, 29,826 where as the expected demand by 2010 is predicted to be
around 11, 09,826.
The College of Nursing established in the year 2009 offers degree and diploma
courses in nursing to meet the diverse needs of healthcare sector. The qualified
and experienced full-time nursing faculty provides the right mix of inputs
consisting of theoretical, practical and clinical experience. The College enjoys
an edge in terms of a strong foundation in medical education and also has a
network of health-care centres and clinical affiliations with community-based
organizations and governmental agencies.

| The programs have been formulated in consultation with experts from the field.
Hands-on-training is given to the students at the 550-bed multi-specialty
hospital of the Medical College located within the University campus, as well as
in its urban and rural health centres. The trainee nurses can attend all the OPD
sessions as well as the outreach programs of the college of Medical, Dental and
Paramedical Sciences. Students in the College get the unique opportunity of
interacting with the faculty, doctors and students of medical, dental and
management colleges for sharpening their technical and managerial skills and
getting groomed up as competent nurses. The students have access to study
material available in different forms such as books, research journals,
magazines, newspapers and CDs through the College library which is computerized
and Internet connected.
