Legal education in India has undergone a paradigm shift in recent years. Young
boys and girls are joining the law courses not simply for independent law
practice as used to be the case but are finding new avenues and opportunities in
legal firms, corporate, government departments and MNC’s. The process of
globalization has brought significant changes in political, economic and social
spheres requiring sound legal analysis and innovative solutions. These changes
have created a huge demand for lawyers who have sound understanding of legal
concepts, theories and practices along with high degree of analytical,
interpretative and communication skills. College of Law and Legal Studies
strives to evolve and impart comprehensive legal education and promote research
in all branches of law. College aims to develop a cadre of law professionals who
have sound understanding of the dynamics of law profession and have the passion
to serve the society with high moral and ethical values.
Looking at the rising number of crimes and their complexity, criminology as a
subject of study is gaining importance in today’s society. In addition, fast
changes in the approach and mode of investigation of the policing authorities
has led to the need for better understanding of the subject, thus opening up
growth opportunities for a career in criminology. The subject of criminology
being interdisciplinary in nature draws heavily from the fields of Law,
psychology and sociology. Since the discipline of law plays a significant role
in the field of criminology, the university has decided to offer three years B.
Sc. program in criminology in the college from the session 2011-12.
