Driving Gender Equity, Empowerment, and
Inclusive Leadership

Our Commitment to Change

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, stands as a pioneering institution committed to driving systemic change in the pursuit of gender equality, consistent with the aspirations and targets of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5): “Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.” TMU recognizes that gender parity is not just a moral imperative but an essential pillar for the realization of a sustainable, inclusive, and innovative academic ecosystem where every individual, regardless of gender, can flourish and contribute meaningfully.

TMU’s mission transcends compliance, embracing the proactive cultivation of a scholarly environment that dismantles patriarchal norms, promotes equal opportunity, and institutionalizes robust mechanisms for empowerment and protection of women and girls. The University’s policy framework, governance practices, and targeted institutional interventions reflect a holistic approach that integrates the global objectives of SDG 5 into every facet of university life.

Institutional Commitment & Policy Integration

TMU’s commitment to SDG 5 is deeply anchored in its official charter, codes of conduct, and operational ethos. The University has adopted comprehensive gender equity policies that include zero tolerance toward discrimination, harassment, or bias. Institutional structures such as the Women Empowerment Cell, ensure vigilance, advocacy, capacity building, and swift redressal for women’s rights and grievances. The University foregrounds inclusion by mandating proportional representation of women in administrative, academic, and student governance bodies, thus nurturing leadership and decision-making capacity among women.

Transformational Initiatives and Educational Reforms

TMU demonstrates its commitment to transformational change through pioneering educational reforms, outreach programmes, and community engagement. Specialized curricular modules, workshops, and seminars on gender sensitivity, leadership, rights and legal literacy, and mental health are integral to academic programming. The University organizes annual gender sensitization drives and thematic conferences to raise awareness, inspire dialogue, and catalyse action on women’s empowerment.

By partnering with governmental bodies (Naari Shakti Mission), and civil society, TMU expands its impact beyond campus boundaries, delivering outreach initiatives that educate, uplift, and empower women and girls in local and rural communities. These include skill development training, entrepreneurship incubation for women, healthcare access programmes, and digital literacy campaigns that bridge social and economic divides.
