5.6.6: Women’s Mentoring Scheme

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, under its flagship initiative Mission Shakti (Currently 5.0), has instituted a comprehensive Women’s Mentoring Scheme aligned with SDG Key Indicator 5.6.6 to promote women’s empowerment through academic, professional, and personal growth. The scheme aims to create a structured and supportive ecosystem where women students receive continuous guidance, motivation, and mentorship to enhance their employability, leadership potential, and self-efficacy.

This initiative operates under a collaborative framework involving the Corporate Resource Centre (CRC), Centre for Teaching, Learning & Development (CTLD), the Mentor-Mentee Program, and individual academic departments. Together, they ensure that mentorship extends beyond classroom learning into career readiness, personality development, and leadership training. Regular mentoring sessions are conducted focusing on career counselling, interview preparation, entrepreneurial skills, and professional ethics.

Through Mission Shakti, TMU has successfully organized multiple Career Counselling and Leadership Development Programs benefiting women students from disciplines such as Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Law, and Engineering. Each session is designed to identify mentees’ individual aspirations and align them with personalized career roadmaps. Expert mentors comprising faculty, alumni, and industry leaders guide students in strategic goal setting, networking, and decision-making, building both competence and confidence.

The mentoring program also integrates wellness, legal awareness, and safety education, ensuring that female students’ holistic needs are addressed. Activities such as self-defense workshops, legal literacy drives, and stress management sessions complement the academic mentoring process, promoting emotional resilience and gender sensitization.

Outcomes of the Women’s Mentoring Scheme are quantitatively tracked through student feedback, participation rates, and employability statistics, reinforcing TMU’s commitment to measurable gender equity outcomes.
