Commitment to Universal Access and Sustainable
Water-Sanitation Management

Our Commitment to Change

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) follows a holistic approach towards water sustainability by adopting the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Water consumption is minimized through efficient fixtures such as low-flow taps, dual-flush toilets, and awareness campaigns that encourage responsible usage among students and staff. Wastewater generated on campus is treated in the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and subsequently reused for gardening, toilet flushing, and cooling systems, thereby reducing dependence on fresh water. In addition, rainwater harvesting structures have been established to recharge groundwater and support campus requirements. TMU also emphasizes recycling treated water wherever possible, ensuring that every drop is utilized effectively and productively. These practices together form a sustainable water management system in line with SDG-6.

Through such practices, TMU reinforces its deep-rooted commitment to ecological balance and responsible management of resources. By integrating eco-conscious practices into daily operations, the University not only safeguards vital water resources but also nurtures a greener, cleaner, and healthier campus ecosystem. TMU firmly believes that protecting the environment is both a responsibility and a legacy for future generations, and its sustainable water practices stand as a testament to this vision.
