4.3.2: Public Events (lifelong learning)
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) actively promotes lifelong learning through a wide range of public events designed to extend educational opportunities beyond formal classroom boundaries. As reflected on the university’s website, TMU regularly organises open workshops, seminars, faculty development programmes, and awareness activities that empower learners at all stages. One key example is the Two-Day Workshop on “Communication Skills and Job Readiness” held by the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Development (CTLD). This workshop provided participants with training in communication strategies, interview preparation, presentation skills, and professional etiquette. Such public events serve as accessible platforms for students, staff, and visitors to engage in meaningful learning that supports employability, personal growth, and lifelong career advancement. Through these activities, TMU reinforces its belief that learning must remain dynamic, participatory, and open to all. TMU’s dedication to lifelong learning is further expressed through its structured Summer Training Programme 2024, conducted for faculty members across departments. This programme included modules on academic systems, curriculum refinement, research methodology, and pedagogical innovation, demonstrating that lifelong learning is not limited to students but is integral to TMU’s institutional ethos. Faculty members participated in collaborative training sessions that strengthened their teaching capabilities, technological literacy, and understanding of modern educational paradigms. TMU’s commitment to professional growth is also reflected in events such as the International Seminar on “AI-Driven Future: Revolutionising Language Learning and Teaching”, which brought global experts and educators together to explore emerging tools, digital pedagogy, and future-ready teaching approaches. These events promote a culture of continuous learning by engaging diverse audiences, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, and ensuring that TMU remains aligned with current global trends in education.
Beyond formal workshops and seminars, TMU fosters lifelong learning through regular awareness programmes, blogs, student activities, and community-oriented events. For example, TMU’s educational blog on “The Power of Joy to Supercharge Brain Development” underscores the importance of cultivating curiosity, creativity, and intrinsic motivation—traits essential to lifelong learners. Numerous departments host public lectures, student exhibitions, and expert interactions that allow the broader community to participate in intellectual engagement on campus. These events encourage students to explore new perspectives, strengthen essential skills, and develop habits of continuous learning that extend far beyond graduation. Collectively, TMU’s public events reflect a robust institutional framework for lifelong learning by making education accessible, relevant, and future-oriented. Through its multi-level engagement—spanning students, faculty, staff, and community participants—TMU successfully advances SDG 4.3.2 by transforming the university into a vibrant hub of continuous knowledge sharing and self-development.
