Green Coverage at Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) is committed toward maintaining a green campus environment and understands its environmental responsibility aligned with the principles of environmental responsibility and sustainability. The University recognizes that preserving green cover is an essential component of sustainable campus development.
Over the past three years, TMU has made conscious efforts to avoid cutting mature trees within the campus. Tree removal is strictly avoided and is undertaken only in exceptional situations, such as safety concerns, statutory requirements, or unavoidable infrastructure development, and even in such cases, the University ensures compensatory plantation to maintain ecological balance.
Green Turf
The University actively protects and maintains its existing green cover, which includes a large number of trees, shrubs, lawns, hedges, and landscaped gardens distributed throughout the campus. Dedicated horticulture and maintenance teams regularly monitor plant health, irrigation, and soil conditions to ensure that the green spaces remain vibrant and well-maintained. These green areas help improve air quality, reduce heat effects, and create a healthy learning environment for students and staff.
In its landscaping and planting activities, TMU emphasizes the use of native and locally suitable plant species well adapted to the Moradabad region's climate. Native species require less water and maintenance.
Landscaping
The University’s campus planning integrates landscaping, with beautifully maintained:
- Lawns and green belts throughout the campus, including the academic block and administrative blocks.
- Roadside plantations and tree-lined avenues.
- Gardens and recreational green zones that promote tranquillity and ecological balance.
The landscaping plan is not merely for beautification; it also contributes to temperature regulation, air purification, and soil conservation. Regular maintenance is being taken care by the trained pool of horticultural staff ensuring that the greenery remains lush, and healthy, throughout the year. Thousands of trees, green zones, and landscaping absorb treated water and contribute to campus aesthetics, climate resilience, and environmental consciousness.

The University maintains lawns, gardens, and roadside plantations with a focus on native tree species to promote ecological balance. Regular tree plantation drives, especially during the monsoon and on the World Environment Day, contribute to a thriving green zone with species like Neem, Peepal, and Ashoka. TMU’s green landscaping integrates eco- friendly walkways, water-efficient irrigation from recycled resources, and aesthetic horticulture displays across the campus.
Plantation Drive outside campus
In addition, the University undertakes regular plantation and greening initiatives throughout the year. These activities focus not only on planting trees but also on ensuring their long- term survival through proper care, watering, and monitoring. Plantation programs are organized with active participation from students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff to promote environmental awareness and responsibility as citizen.
