TMU Students Learned Financial Planning and Investment Skills

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) organised a financial awareness programme for students at TMU College of Law and Legal Studies. The programme was organised under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), TMU, as part of the SEBI Investor’s Awareness Programme.

The session was held on the theme “Financial Planning & Investment Planning.” It focused on helping students understand saving, investment, budgeting and financial security. Around 50 students and members of the organising team participated in the programme.

Expert Explained the Basics of Financial Planning

Prof. (Dr.) Asha Ram Tripathi, SEBI-SMART Resource Person and former Dean and Head of the Department of Commerce at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, was the main speaker.

During the session, Prof. Tripathi explained the six important pillars of personal finance: income, expenses, budgeting, savings, investment and loans. He also explained the difference between needs, wants and aspirations.

Students were introduced to the 50-30-20 budgeting rule. Under this rule, 50% of income was suggested for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for savings and investments.

Students Learned About Investment and Compounding

The speaker also explained the power of compounding and the benefits of starting investments at a young age. Practical examples were used to help students understand how small and regular investments could grow over time.

Students also learned about mutual funds, different levels of investment risk and the Risk-O-Meter. They were encouraged to select investment options according to their financial goals and risk-taking ability.

Awareness About Financial and Cyber Fraud

The programme also focused on protecting students from financial fraud. Students were made aware of common scams such as phishing links, vishing calls, lottery scams and card skimming.

They were advised not to share their passwords or OTPs with anyone. Students were also encouraged to invest only through SEBI-registered intermediaries and use trusted resources such as the SEBI Investor website, Saarthi App and NSE website for financial information.

TMU Faculty Members Participated in the Programme

Prof. (Dr.) Harbansh Dixit, Dean, TMCLLS, welcomed the chief speaker by presenting a plant. Prof. (Dr.) Sushil Kumar Singh, Principal, TMCLLS, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of financial knowledge among young students.

The programme was coordinated and conducted by Mr. Suvigya Saxena, Assistant Professor, TMCLLS. At the end of the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Harbansh Dixit delivered the vote of thanks. Prof. (Dr.) Asha Ram Tripathi was honoured with a certificate of appreciation and a memento. E-certificates were also distributed to all participants.

Conclusion

The programme strengthened financial awareness among TMU students by giving them practical knowledge about budgeting, saving, investment and financial safety. The session also encouraged students to make informed financial decisions, develop healthy saving habits and remain alert to financial and cyber fraud.
