TMU Celebrated National Newborn Week

Teerthanker Mahaveer University recently celebrated National Newborn Week. The event was organised by the Department of Paediatric Nursing, one of the best nursing colleges in India, in collaboration with SNAI under the guidance of Prof D. Poonam Sharma and Prof Dr. M Jasline. The events included health education, seminars, and a poster competition. Purpose of the event

The primary objective was to educate communities and nursing students on various aspects of newborn care. The focal point of the week-long celebration was to raise awareness about newborn care and the importance of breastfeeding, infection prevention, thermoregulation, and jaundice prevention. The events occurred across various locations, ensuring a widespread impact on both urban and rural communities including TMCON, TMU Hospital, Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Village Manoharpur, Moradabad, UP.

Distinguished Presence

Chief Guest Mr. Prem Singh, Gram Pradhan added a community touch to the celebrations, emphasising the significance of collective responsibility. Spearheading the initiative, the Department of Paediatric Nursing played a pivotal role in orchestrating the events throughout the week. The esteemed presence of the Principal and Vice Principal of TMCON added credibility and expertise to the event.

Event Highlights

The week began with health education sessions for parents attending the OPD at Jeevan Jyoti Hospital. The sessions, conducted by MSc Nursing 1st-year students, covered crucial topics like newborn care, emphasising the importance of early parental education.

 

On the second day, a seminar was conducted by Dr. Yogesh Kumar, with a talk by Dr. B.K. Gaur, a renowned paediatrician. Simultaneously, health education sessions were conducted in the village, reaching out to the community through the efforts of NSS coordinator Mr. Gaurav Kumar and BSc Nursing 5th-semester students.

Third day witnessed health education sessions for patients and their parents at the paediatric ward of TMU Hospital. The fourth day added a creative touch with a poster competition conducted among BSc Nursing 5th-semester and Post Basic BSc Nursing 1st-year students.

Active Participation

A huge active participation was seen throughout the week. On November 6th, parents at Jeevan Jyoti Hospital received health education. The following day, Manoharpur villagers were the focus. Concurrently, Post Basic BSc Nursing 1st-year students hosted a seminar on November 7th. Health education continued on November 8th for patients and parents at TMU Hospital's paediatric ward. Lastly, on November 9th, a Poster Competition engaged both Post Basic BSc Nursing 1st-year and BSc Nursing 5th-semester students, ensuring a varied and impactful approach to newborn care awareness.
