The Department of Physiotherapy at Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, successfully organised a Road Safety Awareness Programme under the National Service Scheme (NSS) on 24 January 2026 at the university campus. The initiative aimed to promote responsible driving habits and spread awareness about traffic rules among students and staff members. The theme of the event, “Road Safety: Prevention is Better than Rehabilitation,” highlighted the importance of preventing accidents rather than dealing with their consequences.

The Road Safety Awareness Programme began with an energetic rally conducted within the campus premises. NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically, carrying placards and raising impactful slogans such as “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha.” The rally served as a powerful medium to deliver a clear and meaningful message about following traffic rules and ensuring personal and public safety. Through this activity, students demonstrated their commitment to promoting road discipline and safe driving practices.

Activities Conducted During the Road Safety Awareness Programme

As part of the Road Safety Awareness Programme, informative pamphlets were prepared and distributed among students and staff. These pamphlets included simple yet effective messages about the importance of wearing helmets, obeying traffic signals, avoiding overspeeding, and following basic road safety guidelines. The distribution of pamphlets helped in educating the campus community about everyday safety measures that can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

To make the Road Safety Awareness Programme more engaging and interactive, students designed traffic light models to explain the significance of traffic signals in maintaining order on the roads. These models visually demonstrated how traffic rules function and why it is essential to respect red, yellow, and green signals. Such creative presentations enhanced understanding and made the learning process more practical and memorable.

An informative speech was delivered during the Road Safety Awareness Programme, emphasising the importance of traffic discipline and accident prevention. The speaker highlighted alarming statistics related to road accidents and encouraged everyone to adopt safe driving habits. The address focused on how small precautions—like wearing seat belts, avoiding mobile phone usage while driving, and maintaining speed limits—can save lives.

Adding a dramatic touch to the Road Safety Awareness Programme, students performed an act depicting the dangers of careless driving. The play effectively portrayed real-life situations where negligence on the road leads to serious consequences. Through this performance, the audience was reminded that road safety is not just a rule to follow but a responsibility to uphold for the safety of oneself and others.

Conclusion

The Road Safety Awareness Programme concluded on a positive note with active participation from students and faculty members. The event successfully created awareness about traffic rules and reinforced the message that prevention is always better than a cure. By organising such initiatives, TMU continues to promote social responsibility and community awareness among its students. Overall, the Road Safety Awareness Programme proved to be an impactful and meaningful event that encouraged everyone to follow traffic regulations and contribute toward building a safer society.
