National Conference At TMU Amending the Quality of Health in Palliative Care Nursing

On May 20, 2023,College of Nursing, Teerthanker Mahaveer University organised the National Conference on Palliative Care Nursing to upgrade the knowledge of our students and discuss the need for palliative care nursing globally. The theme of the conference was “Amending the Quality of Health in Palliative Care Nursing”. The event was sparkling in the gracious presence of a distinguished chief guest Dr. T Dileep Kumar, INC President, New Delhi, and Guest of Honor Dr Alok Kumar, Secretary, UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow.


The conference started with the welcome address of Dr Poonam Sharma, Principal, College of Nursing. She briefed how palliative care can provide relief caused by chronic illness and as nursing professionals, we have to integrate all the knowledge pertaining to theoretical and practical ways. Dr Aditya Sharma, Registrar, Teerthanker Mahaveer University spoke about the high demand for palliative care health professionals and how this conference can help to bring awareness and improve the level of palliative care nursing.


Dr. T Dilip Kumar, President of the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi as the chief guest said palliative care nursing is the need of the hour and nursing students should be trained in such a way that they can become beneficial palliative nurses. For this, essential modules related to palliative care have been added to the curriculum that provides theoretical and practical training to nursing students. He said that they are also planning to start a dual degree program in nursing. He also informed about the Critical Nurse Practitioner Course which provides an opportunity for nursing students to offer nursing services in critical situations.


Dr. Alok Kumar, Secretary, UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow conveyed that we are focusing more on practical-based knowledge in nursing so that in future we can give competent nurses to society. The national conference serves as a unique platform for palliative care nurses, educators, researchers, administrators, and policymakers to come together and exchange ideas, strategies, and experiences. This conference provided a bird's eye view of the multiple aspects of palliative care nursing and focused on achieving quality life through a collaborative approach.
