International Yoga Day Celebrated at TMU with the Theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing’
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm by organising a special yoga session based on the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing." The event was conducted by the TMIMT College of Physical Education according to the Common Yoga Protocol issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, for International Yoga Day 2026. The programme aimed to spread awareness about the importance of yoga in maintaining good health, mental peace, and an active lifestyle.
International Yoga Day at TMU Promoted Healthy Living Through Yoga
The special yoga session was attended by students from different colleges of the university, including the Dental College, Agriculture College, and several other faculties. The participants actively took part in different yoga postures and breathing exercises. The session continued for nearly two hours and was conducted by yoga instructor Ritu Narang.
During the programme, the instructor explained the scientific benefits of yoga in very simple words. She shared how regular yoga practice helped improve physical fitness, mental balance, flexibility, and overall well-being. She also encouraged students to include yoga in their daily routine for a healthier and happier life.
Several university leaders, including deans, principals, and vice-principals from different colleges, were present during the event. Their presence encouraged students to participate with enthusiasm and discipline.
The university also shared that the TMIMT College of Physical Education had been organising a series of yoga sessions since 12 June 2026 as part of the International Yoga Day celebrations. Earlier sessions had been conducted for students of the Physiotherapy College, Medical College, and other departments of the university. These programmes had encouraged many students to understand the value of yoga and adopt healthy habits.
During the programme, participants practised a variety of yoga asanas such as Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Padahastasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Trikonasana, Vajrasana, Bhadrasana, Shashankasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, and Setu Bandhasana. They also performed breathing exercises, including Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, and Bhramari Pranayama. The session concluded with meditation and a pledge to follow a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The students showed great discipline, focus, and energy throughout the yoga practice. The health benefits of every yoga posture were explained so that participants could understand the importance of practising yoga regularly. The positive atmosphere of the event motivated students to make yoga a part of their everyday life.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Dr Manu Mishra and Dr Madhusudan Chakravarty. Valuable support was provided by Dr Agam Pratap Singh, Dr Touheed Akhtar, Dr. Shashwat Priyam Khare, Amit Sharma, Vikal Siwach, and Dharmveer Singh, whose efforts contributed to the successful organisation of the event.
