Guru Purnima Celebration at TMU Honoured Indian Knowledge Tradition
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) celebrated Guru Purnimawith great enthusiasm and devotion. The event was organised by the Faculty Club of the College of Computing Sciences and Information Technology (CCSIT), Faculty of Engineering, on 29 July 2026. The celebration honoured Maharishi Ved Vyasa Jayanti and highlighted the importance of the Indian knowledge tradition, Guru-Shishya culture, and the role of teachers in shaping society.
The programme was attended by faculty members and staff, who gathered to pay tribute to teachers and remember the timeless values of Indian culture.
Ceremony Began with Traditional Rituals
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Dwivedi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Saraswati Vandana and Guru Vandana were performed to seek blessings for knowledge and wisdom.
After the prayer, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Maharishi Ved Vyasa. All faculty and staff members expressed their respect and gratitude towards teachers and pledged to preserve and promote India's rich cultural values.
Dean Highlighted the Importance of Teachers in Modern Education
While addressing the gathering, Prof. Rakesh Kumar Dwivedi said that Guru Purnima was not only a festival but also a symbol of knowledge, values, and self-realisation. He spoke about the greatness of Maharishi Ved Vyasa, who compiled the Vedas, wrote the Mahabharata, and organised India's ancient knowledge into a structured form for future generations.
He also explained that in today's world of Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Robotics, and Digital Transformation, the role of teachers had become even more important. He said that engineering education should not only provide technical knowledge but also develop responsible, ethical, and innovative citizens who could contribute to nation-building.
Referring to the inspiring thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he encouraged teachers to inspire students beyond the classroom. He also stressed the importance of research, innovation, patents, entrepreneurship, industry-academia collaboration, and academic integrity.
Speakers Encouraged Students to Learn with Curiosity
Prof. Dwivedi encouraged students to remain curious, ask questions, learn from failures, and use their knowledge for the development of the nation. He also called upon everyone to contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The programme also featured addresses by Prof. Prabhat Kumar, Vice Principal of the College of Engineering, Dr. Parag Agrawal, Associate Professor at CCSIT, and Dr. Sandeep Verma, Faculty Club Coordinator. They said that Guru Purnima was a priceless part of Indian culture that strengthened the bond between teachers and students. They encouraged everyone to follow the values of knowledge, humility, discipline, and service.
Conclusion
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shalini Ninoria. The programme ended with a collective pledge to honour teachers, serve humanity through education, and contribute to nation-building. The event reflected TMU's commitment to preserving Indian traditions while promoting excellence in education, innovation, and ethical values.
