Educational Visit to Sports Authority of India for Physiotherapy Postgraduates

On May 30, 2023, Postgraduate students of the Department of Physiotherapy were given a unique opportunity. They were privileged to visit two iconic sports arenas in Delhi, namely the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and Indira Gandhi Stadium, both managed by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Accompanied by two esteemed faculty members, Dr. Shazia Mattu and Dr. Harish Sharma, the students embarked on an educational journey into the world of sports physiotherapy.


During their visit, the students were provided with valuable insights and knowledge about the latest advancements in sports physiotherapy and practice. They had the opportunity to learn cutting-edge techniques such as shock wave therapy, vacuum treadmill, and various modalities used in exercise physiology and anthropometry evaluations. Dr. Shubhra Chatterjee, a Senior Research Officer at SAI, led the orientation session and provided live demonstrations of these techniques to the students.


In addition to the practical demonstrations, the students were also privileged to have a session with Dr. Anuradha Solanki, a Sports Psychologist at SAI. Dr. Solanki conducted an engaging session on "stress management among athletes," providing valuable insights into the psychological aspects of sports performance.


The visit concluded on a high note, with the students being oriented to the gymnastics hall and badminton hall of SAI. These facilities showcased the state-of-the-art infrastructure available to athletes and further enriched the students' understanding of the role of physiotherapy in sports.


The visit to the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and Indira Gandhi Stadium was truly a remarkable experience for the postgraduate students of Physiotherapy. It provided them with a unique opportunity to witness the latest advancements in sports physiotherapy and gain practical knowledge under the guidance of experienced professionals from SAI.
