A highly informative health awareness session on HPV vaccination and cervical cancer awareness was successfully conducted on 10 April 2026 at TMU. The session focused on spreading awareness about cervical cancer, its prevention, and the importance of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among young women and nursing students. 

The event was organised by the Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Nursing and hosted by Ms Shivali Chaodhary and Ms Himani Rajput, M.Sc. Nursing students.

About the Session

The resource person for the session was Dr Manpreet Kaur Tehalia from TMH&RC. She delivered an engaging lecture on “HPV vaccination and cervical cancer,” explaining that cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women globally and is mainly caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

Dr Manpreet Kaur Tehalia highlighted that early prevention through HPV vaccination and regular screening plays a major role in reducing the risk of cervical cancer. She also discussed the causes, early symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures in simple language so that students could easily understand the topic.

Key Highlights of the Awareness Session

During the session, Dr Tehalia emphasised several important points. She explained how HPV spreads, how it affects cervical health, and why vaccination at an early age is highly effective. She also guided participants on maintaining proper reproductive hygiene and adopting healthy lifestyle practices.

The dignitaries present at the event included Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Subhashini, Dean of Faculty of Nursing, TMU; Prof. (Dr.) M. Jasline, Principal of Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Nursing; Prof. Vijimol, Head of Nursing Foundation; and Asst. Prof. Ms Shivangi Gupta from the OBG Nursing Department.

Their presence encouraged students and added academic value to the program.

Participation and Interaction

The session witnessed active participation from undergraduate students of B.Sc Nursing (2nd Semester, Section A & B) along with faculty members of obstetrical and gynaecological nursing. Students interacted with the speaker and asked questions related to HPV vaccination, safety concerns, and cervical cancer screening procedures.

The discussion session helped clear many doubts and increased awareness among participants. The interactive nature of the session made it more effective and engaging for all attendees.

Conclusion

The HPV vaccination and cervical cancer awareness session proved to be highly successful in educating students and faculty members about the importance of preventive healthcare for women. It created strong awareness about early vaccination, regular screening, and healthy lifestyle choices.
