Workshop on Innovative Techniques in Surgical Suturing and Stapling

On November 22 & 23, 2022, the Department of Surgery of Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre organised a two-day workshop on “Innovative Techniques in Surgical Suturing and Stapling” in association with the world-renowned multinational corporation Johnson & Johnson. The workshop intends to enhance the surgical skills of faculty and resident surgeons and to discuss recent updates in surgical suturing, stapling and energy source utilisation.


The workshop started with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Ajay Pant, Principal, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre. He conveyed that the Department of General Surgery is always ahead in imparting advanced educational training in the surgical field by organising such workshops and training programmes. These kinds of hands-on workshops are very useful for young budding surgeons who are part of the surgery department.


In the workshop, twenty working stations were created in the Department of Surgery, which made the PG resident surgeons, senior residents, and junior faculty pleased as they are delighted with hands-on experiences and new techniques of open suturing, laparoscopic suturing, vascular suturing, staplers and energy sources. Prof. Dr. S.K Jain, Vice-Principal, TMMC & RC ensured to organise more such workshops in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy.


On this occasion, Prof. Dr. V.K. Singh, Additional Medical Superintendent, appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. N.K. Singh and his team for organising this amazing workshop. Dr. Aditya Sharma, Registrar, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, expressed his will to have an MOU between TMU and Johnson & Johnson for future collaboration in imparting such training in a phased manner and establishing a permanent advanced surgical skill lab in the Department of Surgery.
