Vocabaddicts 5.0 at TMU: A Grand Showcase of Language Mastery and Communication Excellence
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, successfully conducted the fifth edition of its flagship linguistic and communication event — Vocabaddicts 5.0, hosted by the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Development (CTLD). This meticulously planned vocabulary-driven competition was aimed at cultivating students’ command over English vocabulary while fostering effective communication and critical thinking.
A Purpose-Driven Learning Platform
The name "Vocabaddicts" signifies an academic commitment to mastering vocabulary in a way that supports professional fluency and daily conversational excellence. To support the event's learning goals, CTLD trainers curated an exclusive 52-page vocabulary compendium containing over 2,000 vocabulary entries, encompassing:
- Crucial Vocabulary
- Synonyms and Antonyms
- Foreign Words & Phrases
Business, Technical & Workplace Terminology - Acronyms & Abbreviations
- One-word Substitutions
- Idioms, Phrases, and Confusing Words
- Academic Jargon & Dynamic Verbs
- Emotional & Tonal Vocabulary
This robust document formed the foundation of preparation for participating students.
Event Progression: Screening to Grand Finale
Screening Round – 15 April 2025
The event commenced with an enthusiastic registration of 696 students in 232 teams from across TMU’s various colleges. The Screening Round, held in smart classrooms and lecture theatres, involved time-bound PowerPoint-based quizzes. From this rigorous round, 47 teams advanced to the Quarter Finals.
Quarter Final – 19 April 2025
The Crossword Round challenged participants to decode complex vocabulary patterns. The top 12 teams, along with 1 standby team, moved to the Semi-Finals.
Semi-Final & Grand Finale – 23 April 2025
Held at the University Auditorium, the concluding rounds were nothing short of a festival of intellect. With over 500 attendees including Prof. Dr. Manjula Jain (Dean Academics), Prof. Dr. M.P. Singh (Director – Student Welfare), and faculty from various departments, the event was an inspiring spectacle of language and learning.
Hosted dynamically by Pragun Gupta (Pharm D) and Ansh Sharma (B.Tech – Electrical), and moderated by Quiz Master Dr. Jasmine Stephen, the event saw high-energy segments such as buzzer rounds and rapid-fire quizzes.
Winning Teams & Recognition
The event culminated with three victorious teams:
- 1st Prize: Team Vanguards – College of Education
- 2nd Prize: Team Mavericks – College of Education
- 3rd Prize: Team Strivers – College of Education
All winning teams were honoured with trophies and certificates, marking their linguistic brilliance and strategic collaboration.
