Promoting Women's Oral Health and Overall Well-being

The camp focused on educating women about the importance of oral health at different stages of life. Particular attention was given to oral health concerns associated with pregnancy, menopause, hormonal changes and nutrition.

Participants were encouraged to adopt healthy oral hygiene habits, including proper brushing techniques, maintaining a balanced diet and seeking timely dental consultations. The initiative also highlighted how awareness and preventive care can help women take greater responsibility for their own oral health and that of their families.

Mobile Dental Van Brings Dental Care to the Community

A key feature of the initiative was the use of a mobile dental van to make dental services accessible within the community. The camp offered several dental services, including:

  • Oral health screening: Assessing participants' oral health and identifying concerns requiring attention.
  • Scaling: Providing professional cleaning to support oral hygiene.
  • Restorative treatment: Offering restorations for eligible dental conditions.
  • Extractions: Providing extraction services where clinically indicated.
  • Preventive education: Sharing guidance on oral hygiene practices and measures to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Individuals requiring advanced dental care were referred to the dental college for further evaluation and treatment.

Special Focus on Preventive Dental Care for Women

The programme emphasised the importance of preventive dental care and personalised oral hygiene practices for women. Discussions highlighted the influence of hormonal changes, pregnancy and nutrition on oral health, reinforcing the need for regular dental check-ups and early attention to oral health concerns.

By combining screening, treatment and health education, the camp sought to improve awareness and encourage women to seek dental care before minor concerns develop into more serious problems.

The camp was organised under the guidance of Dr. Ankita Jain, Vice Principal and Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, TMDCRC, with support from Prof. (Dr.) Shivanee M. Kaul, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Nodal Officer, Mission Shakti.
