TMU Organises Series of Health Camps Under ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan’

As part of the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan”, the Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre (TMMC&RC), Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, organised a series of impactful community health initiatives throughout September and October 2025.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness, ensure early disease detection, and promote healthy living among women, children, and community members — reaffirming TMU’s commitment to preventive healthcare and holistic well-being.

1. Breast and Oral Cancer Screening Camp – Early Detection for Healthier Lives

Date: 19th September 2025
Organised by: Department of Surgery

Under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, the Department of Surgery conducted a Breast and Oral Cancer Screening Camp focusing on early diagnosis and awareness of two of the most prevalent cancers among women and adults.

Women participants were trained in breast self-examination techniques, while oral screenings were performed to identify precancerous lesions. Participants were counselled about the ill effects of tobacco, preventive habits, and lifestyle changes.

Over 150 individuals were screened during the camp, which concluded with positive community feedback and plans for regular follow-up camps, reflecting the department’s dedication to early intervention and community service.

2. Anaemia Screening Drive – Combating Iron Deficiency Among Children

Date: 23rd September 2025
Organised by: Department of Paediatrics
Initiatives: Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan & Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB)

The Department of Paediatrics conducted an Anaemia Screening Drive focusing on children and adolescent girls to identify and prevent anaemia in the community.

Each participant underwent haemoglobin testing free of cost, and those diagnosed with anaemia were provided with iron and folic acid supplements, along with dietary counselling on iron-rich nutrition.

Informative posters in Hindi – “किशोरियों और बच्चों के लिए एनीमिया की जाँच” – helped spread awareness among parents about anaemia prevention and nutritional health.

3. Immunisation Camp – Protecting Every Child Through Vaccination

Date: 25th September 2025
Organised by: Department of Paediatrics

Under the Sashakt Bharat Initiative, an Immunisation Camp was held at the Paediatrics OPD, where vaccines such as BCG, Hepatitis B, OPV, Pentavalent, Rotavirus, MR, and DPT boosters were administered.

Parents were counselled on:

  • The importance of complete immunisation, and
  • Recognising adverse effects following immunisation (AEFI).

The initiative contributed significantly to achieving the goal of a healthy, anaemia-free, and fully immunised generation.

4. Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign – Empowering Women Through Health Education

Date: 27th September 2025
Organised by: Department of Community Medicine, TMMC&RC
Venue: R.K. School & Guretha Village

The Department of Community Medicine organised a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign at R.K. School and Guretha Village, Moradabad, under Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar.

Led by Dr Sadhna Singh, Head of the Department, along with faculty members, postgraduates, and interns, the programme educated adolescent girls and women on menstrual physiology, hygiene management, nutrition, and the use and disposal of sanitary products.

A skit on menstrual myths and taboos performed by intern doctors was well-received, making the event engaging and informative. Sanitary pads were distributed to over 150 participants, encouraging hygienic practices and openness in discussing menstrual health.

The campaign significantly enhanced menstrual health awareness, empowering girls and women to manage menstruation with confidence and dignity.

5. Blood Donation Camp – Fostering Compassion and Responsibility

Date: 1st October 2025
Organised by: Blood Centre, TMMC&RC
In Collaboration With: Faculty of Engineering, TMU

As part of the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan”, and under the directives of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the National Medical Commission (NMC), a Blood Donation Camp was held at the TMMC&RC Blood Centre.

With active participation from the Faculty of Engineering, a total of 33 units of blood were donated voluntarily by students and staff, while 118 new donors registered on the eRaktKosh portal for future contributions.

The event promoted awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation and strengthened TMU’s donor base for future needs.

Dr Seema Awasthi (HOD Pathology), Dr Ashutosh Kumar (In-Charge Blood Bank), and Dr Shyamoli Dutta (Blood Bank Officer) expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and volunteers for their enthusiastic involvement.

Through these community-centric initiatives under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to public health, women’s empowerment, and preventive care.

From cancer screenings and anaemia detection to menstrual hygiene awareness and blood donation drives, these programmes embody TMU’s vision of building a healthier, empowered, and self-reliant society — where wellness and awareness go hand in hand.
