Practical Training in Self-Defence Techniques

Trained instructors from TMIMT College of Physical Education conducted practical sessions to familiarise students with basic techniques that can be applied in real-life situations. The training covered defensive blocking, including basic forearm blocks and protective stances, along with methods to escape wrist and arm holds.

Students also learnt wrist-release techniques using grip angles to break free from an unwanted hold. The instructors demonstrated safe and effective responses, including palm strikes, knee strikes and quick defensive reactions.

The participants practised the techniques individually and in supervised pairs, demonstrating enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the session.

Emphasis on Awareness, Confidence and Personal Safety

The instructors highlighted the importance of being aware of one's surroundings, maintaining a presence of mind, behaving assertively and making quick decisions in potentially difficult situations. The programme was designed not only to introduce practical self-protection skills but also to encourage students, particularly young women, to take proactive steps towards their personal security and independence.

The initiative reinforced the message that self-defence is about protection, preparedness and responsible action rather than aggression. It also encouraged students to recognise the importance of confidence and readiness in everyday life.

Promoting Women's Safety Through Mission Shakti

The programme concluded with positive feedback from students and faculty members. It helped participants develop greater confidence and self-belief, gain practical knowledge of basic self-defence techniques and improve their awareness of personal safety.

Through this initiative under Mission Shakti 5.0 “Second Stage”, TMIMT College of Physical Education reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women's safety, empowerment and independence. The programme highlighted the role of practical training and awareness in fostering a safer, more equitable and dignified society.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Manu Mishra, Principal, TMIMT College of Physical Education, with coordination by Dr. Touheed Akhter and the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Shivanee M. Kaul, Head of Department and Nodal Officer for Mission Shakti 5.0 “Second Stage” at TMU.
