TMU Organises Nukkad Natak on Women’s Safety and Empowerment Under Mission Shakti 5.0

The Faculty of Education, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, organised a compelling and socially impactful Nukkad Natak on 29 November 2025 under the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative. The programme aimed to create strong awareness regarding women’s safety, dignity, empowerment, and responsible citizenship, while inspiring the youth to actively contribute to a safer and gender-sensitive society.

A total of 98 students (66 girls and 32 boys) participated in the event, making it a highly engaging and educational activity for the campus community.

Introduction

Mission Shakti 5.0, a flagship initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, prioritises women’s safety, legal awareness, self-reliance, and empowerment. As part of this state-driven campaign, TMU’s Faculty of Education organised a street play to highlight the everyday challenges faced by women and to motivate young citizens to become proactive agents of change.

The Nukkad Natak served as an effective platform for social messaging, encouraging students to reflect on their responsibilities and to help build a safer, more empathetic environment.

Objectives of the Programme

The event was designed with the following key objectives:

  • To raise awareness about women’s safety, dignity, and legal rights
  • To develop communication, collaboration, and social leadership skills among students
  • To sensitise the community toward gender equality and responsible behaviour
  • To encourage youth participation in the Mission Shakti movement

Programme Activities

The event commenced with a warm and motivational address by Dr. Poonam Chauhan, who introduced the vision and purpose of Mission Shakti 5.0. She highlighted the powerful impact of street theatre as a medium of transformation and encouraged students to perform with confidence, awareness, and sincerity.

Theme of the Nukkad Natak

The street play covered a wide spectrum of issues affecting women in modern society, including:

  • Women’s safety and self-protection
  • Cyber awareness and responsible digital behaviour
  • Bystander intervention, community responsibility, and social support
  • Gender equality and breaking cultural stereotypes

Using expressive performances, impactful dialogues, and realistic situational portrayals, the students demonstrated how awareness, unity, and timely action can prevent violence and promote empowerment. The play resonated deeply with the audience and encouraged reflection on personal and social responsibility.

Vote of Thanks

The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr Poonam Chauhan, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education. She expressed sincere gratitude to all student performers, participants, faculty members, and the organising committee for their dedication and enthusiastic participation in making the event a success.

Conclusion

The Nukkad Natak under Mission Shakti 5.0 proved to be a powerful, interactive, and thought-provoking initiative by the Faculty of Education, TMU. It delivered meaningful messages on women’s empowerment, safety, respect, and digital responsibility through creative dramatisation.

The event reinforced TMU’s commitment to nurturing socially aware, responsible, and gender-sensitive individuals who can contribute to building a safer and more equitable society.
