TMU Organises Legal Awareness Workshop Under Mission Shakti 5.0

The Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Law and Legal Studies (TMCLLS), Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, successfully organised a “Legal Awareness Workshop” under the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative. The event marked the first day of the four-day “Women Empowerment – Awareness and Leadership Campaign” hosted by the college.
The workshop aimed to educate students about legal provisions related to women’s safety, equality, and empowerment while fostering a culture of awareness, empathy, and responsibility within the university community.
The event was coordinated by Mr Sourabh Batar, Dr Sakshi Gupta, and Mrs Shuchita Gulyani, and conducted in the Conference Hall of TMCLLS. The resource person for the session was Dr Atul Kumar, Assistant Professor, TMCLLS, who led the session with engaging and interactive discussions.
Objectives of the Programme
The Legal Awareness Workshop aimed to:
- Provide a clear understanding of laws relevant to women’s safety, equality, and empowerment, including those on domestic violence, workplace harassment, and cybercrime.
- Create a sensitised and responsible student community capable of promoting gender justice.
- Instil confidence among students to recognise, assert, and defend their rights in personal, professional, and social contexts.
A total of 55 students (40 girls and 15 boys) from the 3rd and 5th semesters attended the workshop.
Highlights of the Workshop
The workshop began with a formal inauguration ceremony and a welcome address by the coordinators, who introduced the objectives of Mission Shakti 5.0 and its role in fostering women’s empowerment through education and legal literacy.
The session conducted by Dr Atul Kumar was divided into three major segments:
1. Interactive Lecture
Dr Kumar began with a detailed presentation on the constitutional and legal framework for women’s rights in India.
He discussed key legislation, including:
- The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005
- The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH)
- Relevant IPC Sections on assault, stalking, and cyberbullying
- Cybercrime and Digital Safety Laws
2. Case Study Analysis
To ensure practical understanding, Dr Kumar presented real-life and hypothetical case studies, engaging students in group discussions to identify legal issues and suggest appropriate solutions. This interactive method encouraged critical thinking and collaborative learning.
3. Open Discussion and Q&A Session
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students discussed real-world concerns such as legal procedures, complaint mechanisms, and the role of authorities in handling harassment and cybercrime cases. Dr Kumar’s responses provided valuable practical insights and clarity on legal recourse mechanisms.
Impact and Conclusion
The “Legal Awareness Workshop – Mission Shakti 5.0” proved to be a powerful platform for spreading legal literacy among students, fostering a culture of gender justice and empowerment.
Through this initiative, TMCLLS reinforced TMU’s commitment to holistic education, legal awareness, and social responsibility. The event also empowered students—especially women—to assert their rights, seek justice, and become active contributors to a safer, equitable society.
The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from students underscored the workshop’s success, setting the stage for more such awareness initiatives under the Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign.
