TMU Organises Awareness Programme on Mission Shakti Centres and Women Helplines
Moradabad, November 6, 2025:
The College of Agricultural Sciences, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), organised an Awareness Programme on Mission Shakti Centres and Helplines under the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The event, conducted in collaboration with the Police Staff of Thana Pakbara, aimed to sensitise students on women’s safety, legal rights, and access to government helplines that ensure immediate support and protection.
About Mission Shakti 5.0
Mission Shakti, launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is a visionary campaign dedicated to empowering women through safety, security, and self-reliance. Under this initiative, TMU’s College of Agricultural Sciences strives to promote awareness about government welfare schemes, legal rights, and emergency support systems while fostering a culture of respect and equality.
Objectives of the Programme
The programme focused on key objectives, including:
- Raising awareness about women helpline numbers such as 181 and 1090, providing 24x7 toll-free support for women in distress.
- Educating students on the importance of health and hygiene as part of holistic empowerment.
- Encouraging students to become socially responsible and active participants in promoting women’s safety and equality.
Programme Activities
Held at Lecture Theatre 1, the awareness session drew an enthusiastic participation of 135 students—including 50 girls and 85 boys. The invited speakers from Thana Pakbara Police Station, namely Mr Sukesh Singh (SI), Mrs Kiran, Mrs Pratibha Karki, and Mr Vikrant, delivered insightful sessions on the structure and purpose of Mission Shakti Centres and the role of Women Helplines.
Mrs Kiran explained how these centres provide immediate counselling, legal aid, and protection to women in distress, serving as vital pillars of the Mission Shakti framework. The students were informed about key helplines, including:
- 1090 – Women Power Line: For harassment, stalking, and cyber abuse.
- 181 – Women Helpline: For counselling, protection, and shelter.
- 108 – Health Emergency Helpline: For medical emergencies.
- 112 – Integrated Emergency Number: For police, fire, and ambulance services.
Pamphlets containing helpline information were distributed to attendees, and a self-defence awareness video was screened to enhance understanding of personal safety measures. The speakers stressed the importance of utilising these helplines to ensure that every woman lives without fear and with access to timely assistance.
Acknowledgement and Support
The session was successfully organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Praveen Kumar Jain, Chairperson & Dean, and Dr Shakuli Saxena, Event Organiser. TMU extended heartfelt gratitude to the Police Staff of Thana Pakbara for their cooperation and valuable insights. The programme also emphasised the role of education, health awareness, and self-defence training in building a safer and more equitable society.
