Teerthanker Mahaveer University, through its Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an expert lecture on “Beyond Pharmacovigilance: Materiovigilance and Innovation for Patient Safety” on 23 October 2026. The programme was held at 11:00 AM onwards at the Seminar Hall of TMU College of Pharmacy (TMCOP).
The session aimed to increase awareness about the importance of medical device safety, materiovigilance, and innovation in improving patient care. It also provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the role of safety monitoring in healthcare.
Expert Speaker for the Lecture
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Shatrunjay Shukla, Assistant Scientist at the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad. He shared his expertise on materiovigilance and its importance in ensuring patient safety.
The session focused on the need to monitor medical devices and identify problems related to their use. Materiovigilance plays an important role in reporting and assessing adverse events linked to medical devices. Such monitoring helps healthcare professionals understand potential risks and supports the safe use of medical equipment.
The theme also highlighted the role of innovation in strengthening patient safety practices and improving healthcare services.
Importance of Materiovigilance in Healthcare
Materiovigilance refers to the monitoring of adverse events associated with medical devices. It helps identify possible risks, improve the safety of medical equipment, and support better patient care.
The topic was important for pharmacy students and healthcare professionals because medical devices are widely used in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Proper monitoring and reporting of device-related problems can help reduce risks and improve the quality of treatment.
