TMU Organised Community Awareness Programme on Cyber Safety and AI Basics
Teerthanker Mahaveer University organised a Community Awareness Programme on 26 August 2026 to educate students, faculty members and local community members about online safety, cyber security and the basic use of artificial intelligence (AI). A total of 120 participants attended the session, which was organised by the Division of Student Welfare (DSW), TMU, with the support of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and in association with NIIT Foundation.
TMU Organised the Programme with NIIT Foundation
The programme was conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between TMU and NIIT Foundation. The initiative aimed to improve digital literacy and promote safe internet use among people living in the communities near the university campus.
The Centre for Teaching, Learning & Development (CTLD) coordinated communication between the university and NIIT Foundation. The programme also reflected TMU's efforts to share digital knowledge and promote awareness beyond the university campus.
Expert Shared Important Cyber Security Tips
Mr. Raghvendra Pandey, Master Trainer (CCNA | CyberOps) at NIIT Foundation, served as the resource person. He explained common cyber threats and shared practical tips to help participants stay safe while using the internet, social media and digital payment platforms.
During the interactive session, he explained how to identify suspicious links, phishing messages and online fraud. He also highlighted the importance of creating strong and unique passwords and using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to protect online accounts.
The resource person also discussed AI-enabled cyber threats, including deepfakes and AI-driven scams. Participants learned about the risks of sharing personal information online and the precautions they needed to take while making digital payments.
120 Participants Attended the Awareness Session
The programme brought together students, 13 faculty members, a participant from outside the university and members of nearby communities. Participants actively took part in the session and asked questions about online fraud, digital transactions and the safe use of technology.
The practical examples and real-life cases helped participants understand how cyber criminals used different methods to mislead people. The session encouraged them to check online information carefully, protect their personal details and follow safe digital practices.
Key Outcomes of the Cyber Awareness Programme
The programme improved participants' understanding of cyber security, phishing, password protection, digital payment safety and AI-related risks. More than 100 students and community members gained practical knowledge about identifying suspicious messages, protecting personal information and responding carefully to possible online threats.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of digital awareness in everyday life, especially as people increasingly use online services for communication, payments and other activities.
Conclusion
The Programme was a meaningful initiative by Teerthanker Mahaveer University and NIIT Foundation to promote digital literacy and safer internet use. With the support of CTLD, DSW and NSS, the programme helped students, faculty members and local community members understand common cyber risks and ways to prevent online fraud. The university also planned to continue and expand such community outreach initiatives to strengthen digital awareness and cyber safety.
