TMU Organised 23rd Enlightening Session on Engineering and Viksit Bharat 2047
Teerthanker Mahaveer University organised the 23rd Enlightening Session under the Leadership Talk Series on September 22, 2026. The session focused on the theme “Engineering Purpose: Building Minds, Institutions & A Viksit Bharat.” It brought together experienced academic leaders to discuss the role of engineering, education and strong institutions in India's development.
The programme featured Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Advisor to IIT Kharagpur and former Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), as the Chief Guest. Prof. Satish Jain, former Dean of IIT Mandi and former Head of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at IIT Roorkee, attended as the Guest of Honour.
The event started with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, which symbolised knowledge, wisdom and learning. Both distinguished guests were welcomed and felicitated with bouquets in recognition of their presence and contributions to the academic community.
Prof. Satish Jain Spoke on Knowledge and Nation-Building
Prof. Satish Jain delivered an address titled “From Knowledge to Nation-Building: Engineering India’s Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.” He highlighted the importance of knowledge and technical education in the country's progress.
His address focused on how engineering and education could help address society's needs and support India's long-term development goals. He also encouraged the academic community to connect classroom learning with practical challenges and contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Prof. T. G. Sitharam Highlighted Purposeful Education
Prof. T. G. Sitharam addressed the gathering on “Engineering Purpose: Building Minds, Institutions & A Viksit Bharat.” He discussed the importance of developing skilled individuals with knowledge, clear goals and a sense of responsibility.
He also highlighted the role of educational institutions in creating an environment that supported learning, innovation and personal growth. His address connected academic development and institutional leadership with the larger goal of nation-building.
Together, the two addresses encouraged students and faculty members to reflect on the contribution of engineering, higher education and responsible leadership to India's future.
Following the formal addresses, an interactive session provided an opportunity for further engagement with the ideas discussed during the programme. The university presented mementoes to Prof. T. G. Sitharam and Prof. Satish Jain as a mark of respect and gratitude.
A courtesy meeting was also held between the distinguished guests and the university management, allowing them to exchange views and strengthen academic ties.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Vice Principal of the College of Computing Sciences & Information Technology, followed by the National Anthem.
The 23rd Leadership Talk Series at TMU provided a platform for academic discussion on purposeful education, engineering and institution-building. The session reinforced the importance of preparing knowledgeable and responsible individuals who could contribute to India's journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
