Promoting Awareness About Menstruation and Reproductive Health

The programme began with a welcome address and introduction by Assistant Professor Ms. Shivangi Gupta, TMCON and Event Coordinator. She introduced the theme, “Mission Shakti 5.0 (Second Stage): Menstrual Hygiene Awareness”, and emphasised the importance of open and informed discussions about menstrual health.

The session aimed to improve participants' understanding of menstruation, the menstrual cycle and its significance in women's reproductive health. It also encouraged participants to challenge misconceptions and social taboos surrounding menstruation.

Education on Menstrual Hygiene and Personal Cleanliness

GNM third-year students conducted an educational session covering essential menstrual hygiene practices. Participants were informed about the correct use of sanitary pads, the importance of changing them at appropriate intervals, proper handwashing and the safe disposal of used menstrual products.

The session also highlighted the importance of maintaining personal and genital hygiene during menstruation. Participants learned how appropriate hygiene practices can help reduce the risk of irritation and infection.

Understanding Menstrual Problems and Seeking Medical Advice

The programme highlighted the importance of recognising common menstrual problems and understanding warning signs that may require medical consultation. Participants were encouraged to seek timely medical advice when experiencing concerning symptoms rather than relying on misconceptions or ignoring potential health issues.

The discussion aimed to strengthen awareness of menstrual health and encourage informed decisions regarding personal well-being.

Importance of Nutrition, Hydration and Healthy Habits

Alongside menstrual hygiene, the session highlighted the role of nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices in supporting well-being during menstruation. Participants were encouraged to include iron-rich foods, green leafy vegetables, fruits, pulses and whole grains in their diets.

The importance of adequate fluid intake, proper hydration, sufficient rest and maintaining healthy daily habits was also discussed as part of a holistic approach to menstrual health.

Empowering Women Through Community Health Awareness

The programme sought to create an environment in which menstruation could be discussed openly and without stigma. By addressing common myths and promoting accurate health information, the initiative supported Mission Shakti 5.0's focus on women's health, dignity and empowerment.

The community outreach activity also encouraged participants to adopt good menstrual hygiene practices and share awareness within their families and communities.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Subashini, Dean, Faculty of Nursing; Prof. (Dr.) M. Jasline, Principal; and Prof. Ram Niwas, Vice-Principal, College of Nursing, TMU.

Ms. Shivangi Gupta, Assistant Professor, TMCON, coordinated the event, while GNM third-year student volunteers supported the educational activities through the college's NSS Unit.
