Mission Shakti 5.0 is a government-led initiative dedicated to empowering women and girls through education, safety, and health awareness campaigns. This outreach effort by TMU aligns perfectly with the mission’s objectives to promote confidence, dignity, and self-care among young girls.

Objectives of the Program

The awareness drive was designed to:

  1. Educate adolescent girls about menstruation as a natural biological process.
  2. Promote personal hygiene during menstruation.
  3. Dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
  4. Encourage the safe and regular use of sanitary pads.
  5. Empower girls through Mission Shakti 5.0 to maintain menstrual health with confidence and self-awareness.

Program Activities and Highlights

The session began with the felicitation of the school principal by Ms. Bibha Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG, College of Nursing, TMU.

As the resource person, Ms Bibha Kumari addressed the students, highlighting the goals of Mission Shakti 5.0 — safety, security, and empowerment of women. She explained that menstruation is a natural and healthy process, yet social taboos and lack of knowledge often lead to poor hygiene practices, resulting in infections and discomfort.

She provided practical guidance on:

  • The correct use and timely change of sanitary pads.
  • The importance of personal cleanliness during menstruation.
  • Safe disposal methods of used sanitary materials.
  • Maintaining a balanced diet and hydration for better menstrual health.

To make the session engaging and educational, M.Sc. Nursing (1st and 2nd year) students performed a Nukkad Natak (street play) focused on menstrual awareness and breaking social taboos. The play encouraged open conversations about menstruation and highlighted the importance of hygiene and accessibility to sanitary products.

The entire event reinforced the vision of Mission Shakti 5.0, focusing on empowerment through education, health awareness, and social sensitivity.

Conclusion: Promoting Confidence and Health Awareness

The Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme under Mission Shakti 5.0 at SDRM Junior High School proved to be a great success. It not only educated adolescent girls about menstrual hygiene but also inspired them to embrace the process with confidence and dignity.

At the end of the session, sanitary pads were distributed to all participants to encourage hygienic menstrual practices and ensure access to essential products.

This initiative reflected TMU’s continued commitment to women’s empowerment, health education, and community welfare, aligning seamlessly with the objectives of Mission Shakti 5.0Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family).
