TMU Conducts Awareness Program on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” Under Mission Shakti 5.0
Under the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological (OBG) Nursing, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), organised a community awareness program on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” at Primary School, Kapasi Village, Uttar Pradesh, on 9 October 2025.
The initiative aimed to educate young girls about personal safety, help them distinguish between safe and unsafe touch, and encourage them to communicate openly with trusted adults in case of any discomfort or inappropriate behaviour.
A total of 43 girl participants and six female faculty members attended the session, which was led by Mrs Pooja Jha and Ms Chetana Vashishth, PG Tutors at the Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Nursing, TMU.
Mission Shakti 5.0: Fostering Safety and Empowerment
Mission Shakti 5.0, a flagship initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, focuses on the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women and girls through awareness, health education, legal support, and skill-building programs.
The theme of this session — “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family) — reflected TMU’s ongoing commitment to nurturing awareness, safety, and empowerment at the community level.
Interactive Sessions and Role Play for Better Understanding
The session began with a welcome address and an introduction to the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative. The resource persons, Mrs Pooja Jha and Ms Chetana Vashishth, conducted interactive discussions using visual aids, real-life examples, and demonstrations to help students clearly understand the difference between good and bad touch in an age-appropriate manner.
A role play performed by a BSc Nursing VII Semester student further enhanced engagement and comprehension. The act depicted practical scenarios of good and bad touch, showing the importance of identifying unsafe situations and reporting them confidently to trusted adults.
The active involvement of ten B.Sc. Nursing students contributed significantly to the event’s success. They assisted in community mobilisation, preparation of educational materials, performing the role play, and coordinating the activities, ensuring smooth execution throughout the program.
Interactive Learning and Student Participation
Following the role play, an interactive question-and-answer session encouraged participants to share their thoughts and clarify doubts. The resource persons provided reassuring and practical guidance to reinforce the message of safety, awareness, and empowerment.
The nursing students also gained valuable experiential learning from this outreach, enhancing their skills in community engagement, health communication, and leadership — key components of professional nursing education.
Conclusion: Promoting Awareness and a Safer Community
The awareness program on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” at Primary School, Kapasi Village, proved to be an effective initiative under Mission Shakti 5.0. It successfully strengthened young girls’ awareness of personal safety, self-protection, and communication while fostering an environment of trust and open dialogue.
The program not only empowered participants but also reflected Teerthanker Mahaveer University’s strong commitment to social responsibility and community health education.
By integrating interactive methods and student-led engagement, the event reinforced the mission’s goal of creating a safe, confident, and informed generation of young girls who can recognise their rights and safeguard their dignity.
