TMU Conducts Anti-Ragging Workshop Under Mission Shakti 5.0
Moradabad, October 14, 2025:
The Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Law and Legal Studies (TMCLLS), Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), organised an insightful “Workshop on Anti-Ragging” under the Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign. The workshop was conducted in the Conference Hall of TMCLLS and aimed at strengthening TMU’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and ragging-free campus environment.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Sourabh Batar, Dr. Sakshi Gupta, and Mrs. Shuchita Gulyani, and conducted by Dr. Maneesh Yadav, Professor, TMCLLS, who served as the resource person. A total of 40 students (25 girls and 15 boys) from the 3rd and 5th semesters attended the workshop.
Objectives of the Workshop
The primary objectives of the Anti-Ragging Workshop were to:
- Reinforce TMU’s zero-tolerance policy against ragging in all forms.
- Educate students about legal frameworks, penalties, and disciplinary measures associated with ragging as per UGC and Supreme Court guidelines.
- Promote mutual respect and safety, ensuring that every student feels welcomed, protected, and valued within the university community.
Workshop Highlights
The session began with a welcome address by the coordinators, who reiterated TMU’s dedication to student welfare and campus safety, while linking the event’s purpose to the broader mission of Mission Shakti 5.0 — fostering empowerment and security for all.
1. Defining Ragging and Its Consequences
Dr. Maneesh Yadav began by elaborating on the various forms of ragging, from physical and verbal to psychological and cyber forms. He highlighted the devastating impact of ragging on victims and outlined the legal repercussions for offenders, including expulsion, criminal prosecution, and imprisonment.
2. Legal Framework and Institutional Mechanisms
Dr. Yadav detailed the UGC Regulations (2009) for curbing the menace of ragging and discussed relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that address bullying, harassment, and assault. He also explained the role of the Supreme Court of India in ensuring the enforcement of anti-ragging measures and introduced TMU’s own Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad, explaining their functions and confidential reporting mechanisms.
3. Case Study Discussions
The session included the analysis of real-world case studies that demonstrated the grave outcomes of ragging incidents. Students worked in small groups to examine each case, discuss preventive measures, and understand the ethical, legal, and emotional consequences of such behaviour.
4. Open Discussion and Student Interaction
An interactive Q&A session followed, during which students posed questions about complaint procedures, anonymity in reporting, and institutional safeguards. Dr. Yadav provided clarity and assurance, reaffirming TMU’s strong internal support system for victims and whistle-blowers.
Collective Pledge and Closing Ceremony
The workshop concluded with a collective anti-ragging pledge, symbolising the students’ and faculty’s shared commitment to upholding a safe and respectful campus culture. A vote of thanks was extended to Dr. Maneesh Yadav, the coordinators, and the participating students for their active involvement and contribution to the success of the session.
Impact and Conclusion
The Anti-Ragging Workshop under Mission Shakti 5.0 proved to be a crucial step toward awareness and prevention, effectively reinforcing TMU’s commitment to providing a secure, inclusive, and student-centred learning environment.
By equipping students with legal knowledge and moral awareness, TMCLLS has empowered them to act as responsible ambassadors of peace and integrity. This workshop not only demystified the legal consequences of ragging but also encouraged a culture of empathy, discipline, and accountability among students.
The initiative aligns seamlessly with Mission Shakti 5.0’s objective of fostering empowerment through awareness, ensuring that every student at TMU feels safe, respected, and empowered to thrive.
