Under the Mission Shakti 5.0 initiative, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, College of Nursing, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), in collaboration with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), organised an awareness programme on “Menstrual Hygiene for Group D Workers.” The session aimed to empower women by spreading awareness about menstrual health, hygiene, and self-care practices in line with the Mission Shakti theme “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar.”

Promoting Hygiene, Breaking Taboos, and Empowering Women

The programme began with a Lamp Lighting Ceremony, symbolising enlightenment and positivity. The ceremony was graced by Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Subhashini (Dean, Nursing), Prof. (Dr.) M. Jasline (Principal, College of Nursing), Prof. Ram Nivas (Vice Principal), and faculty members.

Prof. Viji, HOD OBG Nursing, extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and participants, setting the tone for an engaging and insightful session focused on women’s health and empowerment.

The session was specially designed for female attendants, cleaners, and helpers, focusing on hygiene maintenance, myth-busting, and promoting open conversations around menstruation.

Educational Insights and Interactive Session

Prof. (Dr.) M. Jasline, Principal, College of Nursing, initiated the session by encouraging open discussions on menstruation, aiming to break social stigmas and promote dignity in women’s health management. She highlighted that menstrual health should be discussed freely to foster awareness and confidence among women.

Resource Person, Ms Shivangi Gupta, explained that menstruation is a natural biological process, not a taboo. She emphasised proper hygiene, safe use and disposal of sanitary products, balanced nutrition, and hydration to prevent infections and discomfort. Her session motivated participants to prioritise self-care and seek medical advice when necessary.

The interactive dialogue encouraged participants to share experiences and queries, fostering a supportive environment aligned with Mission Shakti 5.0’s goals of health, safety, and empowerment.

The session successfully equipped participants with essential knowledge about menstrual hygiene and reproductive well-being. It emphasised that a healthy woman contributes to a healthy family and society.

At the end of the programme, sanitary pads were distributed to all the participants, reinforcing the importance of accessibility and care. The initiative strengthened the confidence of women workers to manage menstruation with dignity, aligning with the vision of Mission Shakti — empowering women through awareness and education.
