National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 Celebrated at TMMC&RC

The Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre (TMMC&RC), Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, celebrated National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 from 17th to 23rd September in alignment with the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) initiated by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ghaziabad.

The week-long activities were coordinated by the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC) of TMMC&RC, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Prithpal Singh Matreja, Vice Principal & Head of the Department of Pharmacology, along with faculty members of the department.

Theme: “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI”

To spread awareness among consumers and students, the first activity involved the distribution of pamphlets highlighting the importance of medicine safety and the official PvPI reporting helpline and app. Students and patients were encouraged to report any adverse drug reactions (ADRs) promptly to the AMC or directly to PvPI.

The second activity engaged dental students, who were sensitised about their role in promoting pharmacovigilance within their circles, peers, and families.

Poster Presentation by MBBS Students

A poster presentation competition was organised for MBBS Batch 2023–24 students on the central theme of pharmacovigilance. A total of 16 posters were submitted and judged by an expert panel comprising Dr Shilpa Patrick, Dr Preeti Singh, Dr Meenu Thomas, Dr Vishnu Parbhu P, Dr Simranpreet Singh, and Dr Dheeraj PS.

The winners of the poster presentation were a group of ten students: Pari Yadav, Pooja Chaudhary, Prabina Thokcham, Prachi Bansal, Pragya Jain, Prashmi Singh, Priyani Sharma, Priyanshu Priya, Raghav Gaur, and Rahul Kumar. The event was also attended by PG residents and tutors of the Department of Pharmacology.

Guest Lecture and Nukkad Natak

The highlight of the week was a guest lecture on Medication Error delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Prithpal Singh Matreja at the Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Pharmacy (TMCOP). Dr. Matreja emphasised that medication error is a significant cause of mortality worldwide and stressed the need for clear communication and accountability among healthcare professionals.

Following the lecture, students of B. Pharma and Pharm. D performed a Nukkad Natak (street play) at TMCOP to creatively spread awareness on safe medication practices and error prevention.

Strengthening TMU’s Commitment to Patient Safety

The National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 celebrations at TMMC&RC successfully combined academic learning, creative engagement, and practical awareness. The series of events reflected TMU’s commitment to patient safety, pharmacovigilance education, and healthcare excellence.
