CTLD Organised Faculty Development Programme at TMU on Educator Growth
The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Development (CTLD) at TMU successfully organised a Faculty Development Programme on 20 September 2025. The programme, titled "Beyond Teaching: Personality Development & Professional Presence of Educators,".
The programme brought together 30 faculty members from different schools and colleges of the university. Participants came from Agricultural Sciences, Physiotherapy, TPCON, Paramedical Sciences, Education, TMIMT, Law & Legal Studies, Pharmacy, and Dental Sciences. The programme aimed to help educators improve their personality, communication skills, and professional presence so that they could become better teachers and mentors.
Personality Development in Academia
The first session focused on personality development and its importance in an educator's career. Faculty members learned that self-awareness, confidence, and positive thinking played a key role in professional success. The session also explained how a growth mindset and continuous learning could help teachers become more effective in the classroom. Participants discussed practical ways to stay motivated and develop qualities that support lifelong learning.
Professional Presence of Educators
Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Kumar Singh, Director, CTLD, guided the session on professional presence. He explained that a teacher's appearance, body language, behaviour, and communication created a lasting first impression on students. He also shared that professional grooming and positive conduct helped build trust, respect, and a healthy learning environment. The session encouraged faculty members to maintain professionalism both inside and outside the classroom.
Effective Communication & Classroom Engagement
The next session highlighted the importance of effective communication in teaching. Faculty members learned techniques to improve both verbal and non-verbal communication. The programme also introduced interactive teaching methods that encouraged students to take part in classroom discussions and activities. These approaches were expected to improve student engagement and make learning more meaningful.
Educator as a Role Model
The final session focused on the role of educators as mentors and role models. Participants discussed how teachers could inspire students through ethical behaviour, professionalism, and continuous self-improvement. The session also encouraged faculty members to balance personal growth with academic responsibilities while creating a positive influence on students.
Conclusion
The programme ended successfully with positive feedback from all participants. Faculty members appreciated the practical learning experience and useful discussions. The programme strengthened their understanding of personality development, communication skills, professional grooming, and leadership.
Through the Faculty Development Programme, the university once again demonstrated its commitment to improving teaching quality and supporting the professional growth of its faculty members. The initiative reflected TMU's vision of creating confident educators who could inspire students and contribute to excellence in higher education.
