Breastfeeding Week: Awareness to Promote Breastfeeding

On 4th August 2022, Breastfeeding Week from 1st to 7th August was celebrated in the Paediatrics OPD of Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre, Moradabad in the gracious presence of our HOD Dr Rupa Singh, all the faculty members, PG residents, MBBS students, and antenatal and postnatal mothers and their relatives.

Awareness was given about the advantages of breastfeeding, initiation of breastfeeding along with the proper method of breastfeeding by our residents Dr Nadia and Dr Vijyant Kumar. This was followed by an informative speech by faculty members Dr Bablu Kumar Gaur and Dr N.S Chithambaram, Department of Paediatrics on the importance of Breastfeeding.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends breastfeeding until 2 years old or longer because the benefits continue that long. Breast milk helps the baby fight off sickness and disease. It is the only stable and economic food for young infants. It protects against allergies, sickness, obesity and infections.

At the end of the session, an interactive question-answer session was also held between the faculty and the parents in which much enthusiasm was shown by young parents. The program ended with the message to support breastfeeding & advocate for all family members and neighbors.

Department of Paediatrics, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre is one of the finest clinical departments in the college.
