Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) Successfully Conducted at TMMCRC
The Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) was successfully conducted at Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre (TMMCRC) from 18th to 20th December 2025. The programme was organised by the Medical Education Unit (MEU), TMMCRC, under the Regional Centre, Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMSIMS), Bareilly.
The three-day workshop aimed to sensitise faculty members to the revised Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, implemented by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for MBBS admissions from August 2019 onwards, and to prepare faculty as effective facilitators under the new curriculum framework.
Conducted in the Presence of NMC Observer
The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr Jaswinder Singh, NMC Observer and MEU Coordinator & Convener, Regional Centre (SRMSIMS, Bareilly). His presence ensured adherence to NMC guidelines and strengthened the academic rigour of the programme.
A total of 30 faculty members from various departments participated in the programme, selected strictly as per NMC norms, including representation from Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III MBBS departments.
Experienced Resource Faculty Led the Sessions
The sessions were conducted by trained members of the Medical Education Committee and Curriculum Committee of TMMCRC. The resource persons included senior faculty members and MEU-trained educators who have undergone training at Regional and Nodal Centres for Revised Basic Course Workshops and AETCOM modules since 2015.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Prithpal S. Matreja, Vice Principal, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology, and MEU Coordinator, TMMCRC, along with active support from principals, heads of departments, professors, and assistant professors across multiple disciplines.
Comprehensive Coverage of CBME and Assessment Practices
The BCME workshop covered a wide range of essential topics aligned with the revised MBBS curriculum. These included learning processes and domains, competency-based learning objectives, teaching–learning methods, assessment strategies, AETCOM modules, self-directed learning, mentoring, and academic growth.
Special emphasis was placed on internal and formative assessment, MCQ and essay question writing, clinical and practical skill assessment, lesson planning, and alignment of competencies with teaching–learning methods and assessments. New curriculum components such as early clinical exposure, electives, skill assessment, and integration were discussed in detail through interactive sessions and group activities.
Faculty Sensitised to Their Role as Facilitators
The training programme highlighted the evolving role of medical teachers from traditional instructors to facilitators of learning. Faculty members were oriented on designing competency-based schedules, aligning objectives with appropriate teaching strategies, and ensuring quality assurance in assessment practices.
Interactive discussions and feedback sessions allowed participants to share their perspectives, clarify doubts, and gain practical insights into implementing CBME effectively in their respective departments.
Positive Feedback and Academic Enrichment
The workshop concluded with a structured feedback session, where participants expressed satisfaction with the depth, clarity, and practical relevance of the training. The programme reinforced core concepts of the new curriculum and strengthened faculty readiness for its effective implementation.
The successful conduct of the BCME workshop reflects TMMCRC and Teerthanker Mahaveer University’s commitment to continuous faculty development, quality medical education, and alignment with National Medical Commission standards.
