3.3.5 Mental Health Support for Students

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) recognizes that student mental health is fundamental to academic success, personal development, and overall well-being. In alignment with SDG-3: Good Health and Well-Being, the University has established a comprehensive mental health support ecosystem that is accessible, confidential, and student-centric. TMU offers dedicated counselling services through qualified psychologists and counsellors who provide one-on-one sessions, emotional support, stress management guidance, and coping strategies for academic and personal challenges.

Regular mental health awareness programmes, workshops, and seminars are conducted on topics such as anxiety management, depression awareness, exam stress, peer pressure, substance abuse prevention, and resilience-building. TMU’s departments—especially Nursing, Psychology, and Community Medicine—actively contribute to these initiatives through expert-led sessions and practical demonstrations.

The University has also instituted peer-support networks, enabling trained student volunteers to provide empathetic listening and early support. Hostels and student activity centres are sensitized to identify early signs of distress and direct students to professional help when needed. TMU promotes an inclusive environment by addressing stigma associated with mental health through campaigns, open-dialogue events, and well-being drives.

Continuous access to emergency health care at TMU Hospital, coupled with the support of the Student Welfare Department, ensures that students receive timely intervention whenever required. Through its holistic approach to psychological wellness, TMU upholds its commitment to SDG 3.3.5, cultivating a supportive campus culture where mental health is prioritized and nurtured.
