International Women's Day Program

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) organized an enlightening and socially impactful program titled “Discussion on Maintenance of Women’s Health and Sexual Hygiene”, followed by the distribution of sanitary napkins among the participants. The event was conducted at the TMU Dental College, and the participants included members of the general public attending the Outpatient Department (OPD). A total of 86 women participants took part in this awareness discussion, making the initiative both educational and community-oriented.

The program aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining good reproductive and sexual health, with a special focus on menstrual hygiene management. The session began with a warm welcome by the faculty members of the Dental College, who highlighted the significance of celebrating women’s health and empowerment on International Women’s Day. The event was graced by healthcare professionals, dental surgeons, and nursing faculty who shared valuable insights into the preventive and promotive aspects of women’s health.

Key Discussion Points and Interactive Session

The discussion covered crucial topics such as personal hygiene practices, menstrual cycle management, prevention of infections, awareness about reproductive tract infections (RTIs), and the importance of balanced nutrition for maintaining hormonal and reproductive health. Experts emphasized the need for regular health check-ups and the role of hygiene in preventing diseases such as urinary tract infections and cervical infections. Participants were also educated on the safe disposal of sanitary napkins and eco-friendly menstrual products.

The interactive session allowed the participants to freely express their doubts and misconceptions regarding menstrual and sexual health. The facilitators addressed these queries with sensitivity, ensuring that the discussion promoted openness and awareness rather than stigma or discomfort. The event also included short demonstrations on the correct use of sanitary products and personal hygiene practices during menstruation.

Distribution and Impact

Following the discussion, sanitary napkins were distributed among all the participants as part of the university’s commitment to promoting menstrual hygiene and empowering women through accessibility and education. The gesture aimed to encourage hygienic menstrual practices, especially among women from rural and underserved backgrounds attending the OPD.

The initiative reflected TMU’s continuous efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting equitable access to health education and essential resources for women. The program not only enhanced health literacy among participants but also encouraged them to adopt healthy practices and share this knowledge within their communities.

The event concluded with an expression of gratitude to the organizing team, healthcare professionals, and faculty members for their dedicated efforts. Feedback from participants indicated that the session was both informative and motivating, creating awareness about issues often overlooked in everyday life.

Through such initiatives, Teerthanker Mahaveer University continues to reaffirm its commitment to women’s health, empowerment, and community welfare, ensuring that awareness and access to reproductive health services reach every segment of society. The event served as a meaningful step toward building a healthier, informed, and empowered community of women.
