Health Camps
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to promoting good health and well-being through extensive, well-coordinated health outreach programs that address the medical needs of both urban and rural populations. These health camps are designed to deliver accessible, affordable, and preventive healthcare to underserved rural and urban populations, ensuring that essential health services reach those who need them most.
TMU conducts regular multi-specialty medical camps in nearby villages, urban settlements, and community centres. These camps provide free medical consultations, basic diagnostics, essential medicines, and referrals to TMU Hospital for further management. The focus spans across maternal and child health, communicable diseases, lifestyle disorders like diabetes and hypertension, geriatric care, anaemia screening, nutrition counselling, and general preventive healthcare. Each camp is staffed by faculty members, resident doctors, interns, and trained nursing personnel, ensuring high-quality service delivery and interprofessional learning for students.
In addition to medical outreach, TMU’s dental health camps play a pivotal role in improving oral health awareness in the region. The College of Dental Sciences & Research organizes free dental screening camps, fluoride application programmes, oral hygiene education sessions, tobacco cessation counselling, and school-based dental check-ups. Mobile dental vans extend these services to remote areas where oral healthcare access is extremely limited.
TMU also conducts specialized thematic camps, such as eye screening camps, physiotherapy camps for musculoskeletal issues, women’s health camps focusing on menstrual and reproductive health, paediatric camps, and geriatric wellness camps. These focused interventions enable early detection of health conditions and timely treatment, reducing long-term disease burden.
Furthermore, the University organizes Mega Health Camps offering completely free registration, consultations, surgeries, ICU care, diagnostics, and medicines. Such large-scale initiatives significantly reduce financial barriers and ensure comprehensive healthcare availability to economically disadvantaged groups.
Through these sustained outreach programmes, TMU’s health camps directly advance the objectives of SDG-03 by improving healthcare accessibility, strengthening preventive health practices, and addressing health inequities. By integrating service, awareness, screening, and follow-up care, TMU continues to play a transformative role in improving community health and promoting a healthier, more informed society.
