6.5.5 Cooperation on Water Security

Teerthanker Mahaveer University is pleased to announce the MOU signing with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, under the webinar series ‘Igniting Young Minds: Rejuvenating Rivers’ organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga. Dr. Manjula Jain, Dean of Academics, represented Teerthanker Mahaveer University at the prestigious Namami Gange Universities Connect Conclave. The MOU aims to bring the student community to the forefront of the mass movement for creating a sustainable ecosystem of our rivers.

TMU eagerly looks forward to continuing with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to inspire youth toward water conservation, river rejuvenation, cleanliness, agricultural practices, and water reuse.

By engaging students, faculty, and locals together, TMU fosters a shared sense of responsibility for water resources. This cooperative approach also connects with district-level efforts for water conservation and security in the Moradabad area. Overall, TMU’s cooperation on water security reflects a campus-community model in which institutional infrastructure, academic research, and grassroots engagement converge to safeguard water for present and future generations. Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) in Moradabad collaborates with local, regional, and national government bodies to advance water security through a range of sustainability initiatives and formal partnerships:

  • Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India: TMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, demonstrating a formal alliance for advancing responsible water stewardship, sustainable groundwater management, and water resource education for students and communities.
  • District Ganga Plan and Ramganga River Conservation: TMU engages with the District Ganga Committee and other district-level working groups as outlined in the Moradabad District Ganga Plan managed by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), WWF India, and local government departments. These collaborations prioritize river health, sustainable water use, pollution control, and community engagement for water security in the Ramganga and Ganga river basins.
    • Implementation of National Guidelines: TMU adheres to guidelines set by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and other regulatory agencies for water storage, hazardous waste management, and pollution prevention, highlighting compliance with national standards for environmental safety.
    • Community and Stakeholder Engagements: Through National Seminars and Awareness Campaigns, TMU provides a platform for policymakers, experts, government officials, and community volunteers to collaborate on regional water conservation strategies—demonstrating multi-level cooperation for improving water security and environmental resilience.

These efforts reflect TMU's leadership in circular water management, zero liquid discharge systems, rainwater harvesting, sustainable campus operations, and community-focused outreach, setting benchmarks in partnership with government entities for water security and SDG 6 compliance.
