Protecting Aquatic Ecosystems Through Conservation and Responsible Practices

Our Commitment to Change

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) promotes awareness, conservation practices, and sustainable behaviors aimed at protecting and preserving aquatic ecosystems. Although TMU is not located near a coastal region, the University contributes significantly to freshwater and marine preservation through education, research, and community initiatives. TMU conducts awareness drives on reducing plastic pollution, preventing water contamination, and promoting responsible waste disposal—key factors that directly impact rivers, lakes, and downstream marine environments.

The University’s environmental science and life sciences departments engage in research projects related to water quality assessment, aquatic biodiversity, pollution control, and sustainable water management. Students participate in field studies, laboratory analyses, and community outreach programs aimed at monitoring freshwater bodies and promoting conservation ethics. TMU practices responsible campus-wide water management through wastewater treatment plants, recycling of treated water for horticulture, rainwater harvesting systems, and strict monitoring of chemical discharge to ensure eco-safe operations. Regular cleanliness drives around local water bodies and awareness campaigns on minimizing single-use plastics help reinforce environmental responsibility among students and residents.
