Encouraging Sustainable Resource Use and Eco-Conscious Practices Across Campus and Community

Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) promotes sustainable practices, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship across its campus to encourage responsible consumption and production. The University prioritizes responsible use of natural resources through systematic waste-management initiatives, including segregation at source, recycling of paper and plastic, and environmentally safe disposal mechanisms. Regular awareness campaigns sensitize students and staff about the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials, and adopting eco-conscious habits. TMU has implemented water-saving measures such as rainwater harvesting, treated wastewater reuse for horticulture, and leak-prevention systems to minimize wastage. Energy-efficient lighting, regulated electricity usage, and sustainable procurement practices reflect the University’s commitment to reducing its ecological footprint and adopting clean, resource-conscious operations.

The campus promotes responsible food consumption through hygienic, monitored food services, reduction of food waste, and digital meal planning systems in hostels. Additionally, academic departments and student clubs actively conduct workshops, seminars, and projects on sustainable production, circular economy principles, and green entrepreneurship. Through a combination of campus operations, academic engagement, and community outreach, TMU fosters a culture of responsibility and sustainability. These efforts ensure that resource efficiency, environmental protection, and mindful consumption remain central to the University’s mission, fully aligning with SDG-12.
