TMU Nursing College Organises Guest Lecture on “Innovative Approach to Occupational Hazards”

The Department of Community Health Nursing at Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Nursing, a constituent college of Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, successfully hosted a guest lecture on the topic “Innovative Approach on Occupational Hazards” on 1st May 2025. Held in the Smart Classroom, the event aimed to enhance student and faculty understanding of occupational health risks and the use of technology-driven preventive strategies.

The session was organised under the guidance of Dr. Ramkumar Garg (Convener) and coordinated by Prof. Ramniwas. It attracted over 200 participants, including students from B.Sc Nursing (6th & 2nd Semesters) and GNM 3rd Year, along with 12 faculty members.

Lamp Lighting Ceremony and Dignitary Participation

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony in front of Maa Saraswati, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge. Ms. Pavni Agarwal, a B.Sc Nursing student, delivered the welcome address, inviting the guest speaker, Dr. Ayushi Bansal, Professor, Govt. College of Nursing, Meerut, along with TMU leadership — Prof. (Dr.) SP Subashini (Dean Nursing), Prof. (Dr.) Jasline M (Principal), Prof. Ramniwas (Vice Principal), and all Heads of Departments.

Knowledge Sharing on Occupational Hazards and Modern Preventive Measures

Prof. (Dr.) Jasline M, in her opening remarks, elaborated on the types of occupational hazards—physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial, and ergonomic—and emphasised the need for technology-driven interventions such as AI, IoT, and VR to prevent workplace risks through real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

Keynote Session by Dr. Ayushi Bansal

Dr. Ayushi Bansal captivated the audience with her in-depth session on Occupational Health Hazards. She addressed critical factors that affect workers' health including housing conditions, water quality, and waste management. She reiterated the dual purpose of occupational health: ensuring worker safety and enhancing industrial productivity.

Session 2: Case Studies on Industrial Accidents

Dr. Bansal shared detailed insights through real-world case studies:

  • Bhopal Gas Tragedy (1984): One of the world’s worst industrial disasters at Union Carbide, Bhopal.
  • Vicksburg Explosion (2002): A fatal accident at a rubber recycling facility in Mississippi, USA.

These examples highlighted the devastating effects of neglecting workplace safety protocols.

Session 3: Innovative Preventive Strategies

The final session focused on cutting-edge solutions in workplace safety, including:

  • AI-Powered Predictive Modelling to detect risks
  • Wearable devices for monitoring worker vitals
  • IoT systems for real-time environmental tracking
    Technologies like Blue Dot and HealthMap were mentioned as tools currently used to analyse global health data and prevent disease outbreaks in occupational settings.

Impact and Feedback

Participants described the session as informative and eye-opening, particularly appreciating the inclusion of modern technological approaches to hazard prevention. The lecture helped students build a foundational understanding of occupational safety and its real-world implications.
